Premiere Pro Media Transfer - XML

This document will guide you through the process of preparing the necessary files for transferring the media for color correction

Deliverables.

 

There are 3 main deliverables required for the handoff to color correction

  1. Media - Original camera media

  2. XML - The timeline file

  3. Reference Video - Source of truth for rebuilding the edit in the color correction software

Consolidating The Media

  1. In finder or file explorer create a Destination Folder* date(mmddyyyy)_YourProjectName in the location to want the media to be transferred too.

In your Sequence settings make sure “Maximum Bit Depth”, “Maximum Render Quality” are selected

  1. In premiere with your project open navigate to file > Project Manager 

  2. Select the sequence you are consolidating media from

  3. Select “Consolidate and Transcode”

  4. Select Browse in the destination path tab and navigate to the folder created in step #1

  5. Check “Exclude Unused Clips” and “Convert After Effects Compositions to Clips” in the right hand column

  6. Click “OK” and the used media will begin to be copied to the folder you created.

Export the XML

  1. In Premiere, open the new project file created in the consolidated media folder.

  2. With the new project, navigate to the file drop down

  3. Navigate to file > export > final cut pro XML 

  4. Set the name of the XML “date(mmddyyyy)_YourProjectName_Vnumber version” and hit “OK”

  5. Save this XML in the folder you created in the beginning

Export offline reference* (export an h.264 version)

  1. Make sure the timeline is set to the desired framerate and resolution that as the desired output.

  2. With the timeline selected press command/control + M or navigate to file > Export > Media

  3. Set reference file name to “YYYYMMDDYourProjectName

  4. Set format to Quicktime and video codec to h.264

  5. Select the outputName Parameter, navigate to the destination folder and title the file “YourProjectName_(mmddyyyy)-offlineReference

  6. Render the offline reference by selecting export or queue to open Adobe Media Encoder to export.

Destination Folder

The Destination Folder is the folder where all of you media that you will be store so transferring all of the necessary assets to me (the colorist) will be as convenient as possible.

Offline reference

The Offline Reference is a export of your full video in the desired framerate and resolution which I use as a reference to make sure that when I bring the edit into the color correction application it is the same as in your edit.
