DaVinci Resolve Media Transfer Guide

THE WHAT

The following is a process of taking the used media from a project and packaging it up to transfer to me, the colorist. This process requires storage space since it is copying the used to another location so it can be uploaded. 

Deliverables.

 
  1. Offline Render - An export of the full project with the desired output resolution with h.264 compression stored in a .mp4 or .mov

  2. Media - A copy of the media as described in this document

  3. The ‘.drp’ - the DaVinci Resolve project 

Part 1: Consolidating media in Davinci Resolve

  1. Create a folder to for all of the media to be copied on your drive named: ProjectName_date (dd-mm-yyyy)

  2. Duplicate the project timeline by navigating to the timeline in the media pool

  3. Right click the timeline, navigate to the drop down and select duplicate Timeline.

  4. Name the Timeline: ProjectName_date(dd-mm-yyyy) by double clicking the name of the timeline in the media pool

  5. Select File dropdown and go to Media Management

  6. Navigate to the Timelines Tab

  7. Select copy

  8. Select Browse and select the media Destination

  9. Select the finished Timeline that is ready for color correction

  10. Select “Copy only used media files”

  11. Select “Relink to new files”

  12. Click Start and the copying process will begin

  13. With the resolve project open navigate to the Media Tab

  14. At the top select File dropdown and go to Export Project and save the .drp (davinci resolve project)  file in the folder you created

  15. Select File dropdown and go to Media 

Part 2: Uploading Files

  1. Once the copy process is finished open THIS LINK

  2. Click “Add” navigate to the folder with all of the media

  3. Select all of the media and click open, or drag and drop the folder onto the icon and the files will begin to upload
